Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has suggested that the two countries should "turn over a new leaf" in their relations...
"I am calling on you to forget what has occurred between our countries in the past five years and turn over a new leaf in our relations," Azarov said addressing Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin before negotiations in Moscow on Thursday.
Azarov said that the new Ukrainian government was facing the tasks of economic stabilization, and that the domestic political conditions had been created to achieve this goal.
"For the first time we have no confrontation between the parliament and the government, between the government and the president," he said.
"Instead, the government, the president and the parliament hope for political stabilization and economic stabilization, and the complete restoration of relations with Russia is, of course, one of the most important conditions for stability. And our government says it is not just for the sake of words or slogans - this is our ideology. We will do everything to restore our cooperation and our projects," Azarov said.
"We have brought a number of relatively new proposals for you, for your government. We could significantly optimize our work and soon sign agreements. We could sign them and show that we can constructively work step by step," he said.
"There is an opportunity to develop our cooperation, address these issues and build relations not for a year, but for [several] years at least," Azarov said.
