The Ukrainian and Russian energy ministers have instructed the subcommittee of the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation to intensify the work of the consortium on the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system (GTS), Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko has said.

"Two days ago, the subcommittee`s work ended, and we ordered them to intensify the work of the consortium," he said.

Shmatko said that the consortium had currently been created, but was not actually functioning.

"We created a company-consortium, but it`s dormant. Therefore, we instructed the shareholders and the subcommittee to conduct the necessary work," he said.

Agreed proposals on this work will be presented at the Russian and Ukrainian energy ministries. Shmatko said that there was currently no details on how and in what areas this work would be conducted.
